Historic Conde McCullough Wilson River Bridge Rehabilitation

Originally constructed in the 30′s this bridge is still serving our infrastructure today.

In 2005 ODOT contracted with MJ Hughes to add seismic upgrades, rail upgrades and to increase the elevation of the cast in place concrete bracing between the arches. The existing bracing was too low along the shoulders of the roads and overheight trucks were hitting the bracing. Challenges included ensuring stability of the structure with portions of the existing bracing removed and working with limited vertical clearances between our falsework and the live traffic below. Because hwy 101 is only two lanes with no shoulders here all work had to be performed in close proximity to the traffic.  Additional challenges overcome were simply working on the Oregon coast in the winter with frequent storms, high winds and flooding.
